Challenge Program Furniture

About

A Dual Mission

CP Furniture is a social enterprise that offers distinctive, handcrafted furniture to residential and commercial clients.

We are part of The Challenge Program, a nonprofit founded in 1995 in Wilmington, Delaware.  The program teaches construction and life skills to at-risk youth, empowering them with the direction, training and confidence to become self-sufficient.

CP Furniture’s dual mission is to financially support The Challenge Program and to provide jobs and advanced training to program graduates.  All proceeds from furniture sales are re-invested in the program.

GOOD WORKS START WITH GOOD WORK

Designing and building our furniture demands a high degree of skill. So we offer selected graduates of The Challenge Program full-time, year-long, paid apprenticeships. Working alongside our master furniture makers, trainees see the whole process: from concept to design, from tree selection to milling, from joining to finishing.  They become invested in, take ownership of, and proudly sign the pieces they help to make.

Our pieces are unique, but there is a family resemblance.  Each celebrates sensible, spare design, exquisite materials, superb craftsmanship and sustainable sourcing (featuring local and reclaimed materials wherever practicable).
